About
Dr Sarah Vrankovich (she/her)
I am a Research Fellow at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS) and a leading expert in sexual violence prevention.
I specialise in strengths-based approaches to preventing sexual violence, with a focus on complex and under-researched contexts such as the mining industry and custodial settings. My work centres on recognising and amplifying the agency and capacities of individuals and communities, particularly those that have been overlooked in traditional prevention efforts.
At ARCSHS, I work on the Partners in Prevention of Sexual Violence project, which is the largest research project on sexual violence prevention that the Australian federal Government has funded ($7.45 mil). It is funded by the Department of Social Services and sits under the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children for three years from 2024-2027. We are conducting realist evaluations of nine community-led sexual violence primary and secondary prevention programs. The programs are in Western Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales, with a range of focuses including with schools, university students, parents, young LGBTQ+ people, sport clubs, homelessness services, young people in custody, and men who have perpetrated or are at risk of perpetrating sexual violence.
I lead the evaluations of two community-based programs. One is a safe relationships program for young queer adults with lived experience of family, domestic and/or sexual violence and homelessness, and the other is a relationships and consent program for boys in a custodial setting.
The project will generate world-first knowledge on sexual violence prevention.
